This portrait of Maharaja Pratap Singh of Jaipur (reigned 1778-1803) shows him lavishly adorned with jewels including turban ornaments as well as several necklaces. Pratap Singh was a great patron of the arts; in 1799, he commissioned the magnificent sandstone palace Hawa Mahal in Jaipur. This work was painted at the royal court of Jaipur (Rajasthan, India), circa 1790-95. Add.Or.5579.
