A Victorian advertising poster for Harvey's midges: the smallest people in the world, a show held at Piccadilly Hall (London, 1884). The poster includes the text: Princess Lottie, born July 4th 1869. 20 ins in height, weight 9 lbs. Prince Midge, born January 14th 1868. 21 ins in height & weight 9 1/2 lbs. Details of two other persons are given as General Tot, 31ins in height, 18 1/2 years of age, Liliputian vocalist, and Jennie Worgen, 25 ins in height, 19 years of age, the midge's housewife.
The poster is part of the Evanion Collection which is part of the British Library's archives and consists of over 5000 pamphlets, handbills and miscellaneous printed matter relating to Victorian entertainment and everyday life, collected by the stage magician and ventriloquist Henry Evans, or Evanion as he was also known.
