Medieval alphabet from the Macclesfield Alphabet Book
A page from the Macclesfield Alphabet Book, showing a colourful alphabet. The Macclesfield Alphabet Book is an exquisitely beautiful 15th-century English 'pattern' book, probably used by artists for the transmission of ideas to assistants, or as a sample book to show potential customers. The creator may have been Roger Baldry of the Cluniac priory of St Mary of Thetford, Norfolk (prior 1503-c.1518).
