Rama is banished
Rama's stepmother Kaikeyi conspires against him, resulting in his banishment. In this picture she tells Rama that he is to be exiled to the forest for 14 years and that her son Bharata will be given the kingdom. Rama tells Laksmana's mother Kausalya of the banishment and she falls to the floor on hearing the news. The image is from the Ramayana. This copy of the Ramayana was commissioned by Rana Jagat Singh of Mewar in Rajashan between 1649 and 1653.
